Story

Amir Javadifar was born on September 13, 1984, in Rasht. He was a student of Industrial Management at Islamic Azad University of Qazvin.

He was arrested on July 9, 2009, during the Green Movement protests and transferred to Kahrizak detention center. There, he endured severe torture and inhumane conditions. He described his ordeal: "When I entered the hell of Kahrizak, my neck, nose, jaw, and ribs were all crushed, and I had lost sight in one of my eyes due to beatings by officers. I kept thinking, why can't one of my eyes see? A few days passed, and my eyes became severely infected due to unsanitary conditions and diesel smoke being sent into solitary confinement. Once, next to the toilet, I wanted to drink water and saw my friend. I told him, 'I don't know why my left eye can't see!' It was hard for him to tell me the truth, and he couldn't say that my cornea had come out and I had lost sight in one of my eyes. At that moment, all he could do was comfort me. I always cried out loudly, asking my mother to return my eyesight, because my mother had passed away five years before my arrest due to cancer, and her grief still weighed on my heart, and I always sought her help."

On the last day of his detention, as he and other detainees were being transferred from Kahrizak to Evin prison, his condition worsened significantly. Despite his critical state, Colonel Komjani, the head of Kahrizak detention center, reportedly kicked him multiple times in the head, face, and broken ribs for sitting in the shade instead of the scorching July sun. He was forced to move with bare feet on the hot asphalt. Before boarding the bus, plastic handcuffs were tied so tightly that they caused bleeding and cuts on the wrists of many detainees. The bus driver and police officers wore masks due to the stench from the detainees, yet they refused to open windows or provide water, even drinking cold water in front of them. Soldiers with batons beat anyone who groaned.

Amir Javadifar's health deteriorated severely on the bus. He was extremely thirsty, his lips parched, and he was vomiting blood. Despite his friends' desperate pleas for water, none was given. His breathing became increasingly difficult. A friend attempted artificial respiration, but it was futile. Amir Javadifar passed away on the bus, on July 10, 2009, in a state of extreme suffering, pain, and thirst, on his way to his mother.
