Story

Mehran Samak, a 27-year-old Iranian citizen from Bandar Anzali, was killed on November 29, 2022, during Iran’s nationwide protests. His death occurred on the night Iran lost to the United States in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Following the defeat, Mehran and his fiancée took to the streets in Bandar Anzali to protest against the Islamic Republic. While honking his car horn as an act of dissent, he was struck in the head by a direct gunshot fired by a government security officer. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

After his killing, his brother spent the night driving around with Mehran's body, fearing that authorities would seize it before the family could arrange a burial. This incident highlights the severe repression faced by individuals expressing dissent or even perceived dissent during the protests.
