Story

Fathollah Avari, a 42-year-old protester, was executed in Hamedan Central Prison on June 3, 2026. He was the eighteenth protester to be executed in relation to the January nationwide protests since March 19.

Avari was arrested in late January 2026, following protests in Hamedan on January 8 and 9. State media aired his forced confessions on January 19, where he appeared visibly distressed and "confessed" to participating in the protests and stabbing a policeman. He was accused of causing the death of a policeman in Hamedan on January 8. The Legal Medicine Organisation determined the cause of death to be a stab wound to the left flank and subsequent medical complications.

Fathollah Avari was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for the murder of the policeman. His execution took place in Hamedan Central Prison, as established by Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO), although state media initially did not specify the exact date and location.
