Arnika Ghaem Maghami, a 17-year-old, was severely injured on October 12, 2022, during the 2022 Iran protests, after sustaining multiple baton blows to her head and face by security forces. She fell into a coma and was hospitalized at NEDAJA Golestan Hospital in Tehran. After ten days in a coma, she passed away on October 22, 2022, due to brain death. She was laid to rest in Behesht Zahra, Section 43.
Following her death, the government of the Islamic Republic claimed that she had been thrown from the top of a building. This claim has been repeatedly made by the Islamic Republic authorities regarding other children killed in the 2022 protests, such as Nika Shakarami and Sarina Esmailzadeh. Government officials often attribute the deaths of protesters to suicide, underlying medical conditions, dog bites, or even protesters shooting each other.
