Arnika Dabbagh was a 15-year-old national swimming champion from Gorgan. She was known for her athletic spirit and was described by her sister as the "reason for joy and life" in their home. Arnika had a routine of breakfast, studying, and exercise, and she loved living. Her dream was to visit London.
Arnika Dabbagh was killed on January 9, 2026 during anti-regime protests in Iran. She was shot in the heart by security forces of the Islamic Republic, with some reports indicating she was shot from behind. She is counted among the many protesters who lost their lives during the uprising.
Following her death, Arnika's memory was honored by many. Her mother expressed that Arnika "loved living" and had a structured daily life. Tributes were paid by national swimmers, including Hoomar Abbasi and Pedram Keshmiri, at the 22nd Iran Swimming League. The Golestan Swimming Board also organized a minute of silence in her memory. Her 40th-day ceremony was held in Golestan province, where people gathered to honor her memory by playing music, performing a mourning dance, and releasing doves. Her sister shared emotional posts, stating, "You were the reason the house was full of joy and life, child. You were only 15 when they took you from us. You wished to see the whole world. Your fellow compatriots made your wish come true. You, Arnika, your courage has no equal and will have none. You and the other Immortals of Iran made our voice heard by the world." Another post from her sister read, "I'm glad that in your life you reached everything you wanted. Not just in your life — even after your becoming Immortal. One day I'll tell the story of your life so everyone knows how different you were, kid." Arnika Dabbagh's name is remembered as a symbol of courage and a child of Iran whose future was tragically cut short.
