Abbas Zahmatkesh, 35 years old and a father of two, was a resident of Darrud, a city within the Zabarakhan district of Nishapur.
On January 9, 2026, he was fatally shot at the intersection of 15 Khordad Street in Nishapur. He was struck by a military-grade bullet fired by a sniper positioned on top of a building. Following the shooting, he was transported to a hospital in Mashhad for medical attention. However, due to the severity of his injuries and internal bleeding, he died en route inside the ambulance. His body was subsequently moved to the Behesht Reza morgue in Mashhad.
A commemoration ceremony and 40th-day memorial for Abbas Zahmatkesh were held on February 19, 2026, at the Dorud City Cemetery in Nishapur County. His name is also included in the Islamic Republic government's published list of those killed.
