Biography

Abbas Mansouri was born on November 21, 2003, in Shush, Khuzestan province. He was the son of Ali and had a twin brother named Hossein. Abbas was a kanaf work master, a guitar player, and generally described as a polite, cheerful, humble, artistic, creative, hardworking, and diligent young man.

The nationwide protests following the killing of Mahsa Zhina Amini began in late September 2022. On November 16, 2022, as people gathered in the streets to commemorate the victims of the November 2019 protests, Abbas was standing in front of a game net cafe in Haft-e Tir Square, watching the demonstrations. Government agents suddenly arrived, arrested him for merely observing the protests, and took him to the Shush Criminal Investigation Police.

During his detention, Abbas was subjected to severe torture for three days. After this period, he was transferred to Dezful prison. While in prison, upon hearing the heavy sentences being read to other prisoners, Abbas became very distressed and suffered a seizure. The officers took advantage of this situation, injected him with unknown drugs, and cruelly told him that he would never see his family again.

His family made significant efforts and finally succeeded in securing his release on bail on December 5, 2022. Just one week after his release, on December 11, 2022, Abbas Mansouri passed away due to the inhumane torture and the injections administered by the officers. Following his death, security agents pressured his family to declare the cause of death as suicide. His lifeless body was laid to rest on December 13, 2022, in the Shush Martyrs' Cemetery. The first anniversary of his death was held at his grave on December 11, 2023. Abbas had a deep affection for his mother, and before his death, he had written in an Instagram post for her: “Beyond all the longing, tears, and complaints, I must confess that when my mother smiles, I am happy.”
